OPERATION SALCOATS – Was launched in Maulden on Saturday 20th Feb. 2016. Op Salcoats is an integrated crime prevention and community reassurance initiative, which brings together the voluntary element of policing and community watch scheme volunteers to promote the role local people can play working alongside the force to keep our county safe.

Designed to help prevent crime and deliver greater reassurance in our communities, it reflects our commitment to tackling not only serious crime but also issues which affect residents’ quality of life, and thereby to build confident and resilient communities.

Operation Salcoats will become a valuable asset to our residents and businesses – and to our hard-pressed Police – in providing the extra visible policing presence that parish councils and local people have said they want to see.

The scheme involves our first dedicated Parish Special Constables working directly with Watch schemes to ensure enforcement of speed offences, undertake home burglary surveys and promote community engagement. Parish Special Constables will have the same powers to arrest and issue fines as their long-established Specials colleagues.

A thank you event was held on Saturday 8th April 2017at the Rufus Centre for volunteers involved in the watch schemes . Thank you to all those who attended from all over the county. This was the first such event for volunteers which will now become an annual event.
